Ed and I were only home from Kauai for 1 1/2 days, only long enough to unpack, repack and have a family birthday dinner for Katie, Aaron’s wife. Early last Monday morning, we were off again. This time it was a church history workshop/tour for a group of Seminary/Institute teachers and spouses. It was so wonderful! We had such great tour guides and others who knew so much. We actually had to read tons of material before we left and each couple prepared reports on different topics.
We flew to Kansas City, Missouri and from there we rode a bus and visited many church sites in Missouri for two days, such as Independence, Far West, Liberty, Adam-ondi-Ahman….Then on to Nauvoo, where we spent three nights, seeing lots of sights there and in the surrounding areas, such a Carthage. We watched the pageant and lots of other performances, attended the Nauvoo temple, and explored all the restored buildings, and other fun things. Then the last two days were spent driving across Iowa and stopping at a few places there, such as Montrose, Garden Grove and Mount Pisgah. Our last day, we visited Kanesville and Winter quarters. We learned a lot, gained a greater appreciation for the early Saints, and got to associate with so many great people. We are truly blessed!
I made about the same trip with Tina, Linnea, Hunter and baby Cassidy in 2002, when they had the open house for the Nauvoo temple, but Ed had never been there. It was also nice to have experts with us and we got to spend more time in different places this time.
I will write more, but for now we are back home and I don’t want to travel for a while now. Heather, Eddy’s wife, and some of her family membersĀ are here visiting with us now. Heather’s grandmother passed away, so they are here for the funeral. We hadn’t expected to see Heather so soon again, but we are glad she is here.
